CLASSICAL TURKEY W/ 5 DAYS MOUNTAIN BIKING IN CAPPADOCIA
|
DAY 1 : Arrive at Istanbul. Welcome cocktail and information meeting. Dinner, and overnight in Istanbul.
DAY 2 : We start our first morning in Istanbul strolling to the great square which was once the Byzantine Hippodrome. Now it is a great parklike area surrounded by the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and the Underground Cistern, commonly called the Basilica Cistern. After lunch at a local restaurant, retracing our steps we walk to the Topkapi Palace, more than a palace, it is an assemblage of museums, containing the collections amassed by the Sultans over almost five centuries. After Topkapi Palace, we finish the day with Grand Bazaar visit. Dinner, and overnight in Istanbul.
DAY 3 : We first walk to the Rustem Pasha Mosque, then we visit the Dolmabahce Palace; overlooking the Bosphorus, it is definitely incomparable with 14 tons of pure gold used for its interior decoration, its priceless paintings, furniture, a rich collection of Bohemian crystal in addition to its famous Harem section. We get on board right after the Dolmabahce Palace, and take the leisurely Bosphorus Cruise from Eminonu, to the still unspoiled village of Sariyer. As we disembark at Eminonu, we can walk to the Spice Market, where Geneose and Venetian goods were sold at a time when there was no Suez Canal, and all the spices from the East were also brought here after being loaded on vessels in Egypt. Transfer to airport and take the evening flight to Cappadocia. Dinner, and overnight in Urgup. (Hotel)
DAY 4 : Departure from Urgup by MTB. (Classical Cappadocia tour)
Direction : Urgup - Pancarlik - Ortahisar - Goreme Open Air Museum - Rose Valley - Pasabag - Zelve - Dervent
Total distance : 40 km ( 25 km off road)
Lunch in Zelve at a restaurant. Dinner, and overnight in Urgup. (Hotel)
DAY 5 : Departure from Urgup by MTB.
Direction : Urgup - Damsa Stream - Sarihan - Red River - Avanos - Cavusin - Love Valley - Uchisar -Ibrahimpasa.
Total distance : 50 km. (off road)
Lunch is in Avanos at a restaurant. Dinner, and overnight in Ibrahimpasa. (Camp)
DAY 6 : Departure from Ibrahimpasa to Soganli.
Direction : Ibrahimpasa - Mazikoy - Sahinefendi - Soganli.
Total distance : 55 km. (35 km off road)
Picnic lunch is in Mazikoy. Dinner, and overnight in Soganli. (Camp)
DAY 7 : Departure from Soganli to Derinkuyu.
Direction : Soganli - Orhanli - Derinkuyu.
Total distance : 32 km off road.
Lunch is in Derinkuyu at a local restaurant. Visit to Derinkuyu Underground City in the afternoon. Dinner, and overnight in Derinkuyu. (Hotel)
DAY 8 : Departure from Derinkuyu to Ihlara.
Direction : Derinkuyu - Guzelyurt - Ihlara
Total distance : 60 km. (50 km off road)
Picnic lunch on the way. Dinner, and overnight in the canyon. (Camp)
DAY 9 : We have a half-day walk in the canyon and visit Selime and Agzikarahan Caravanserai. Lunch in Urgup and free afternoon. Dinner, and overnight in Urgup. (Hotel)
DAY 10 : We drive to Antalya in the morning via Konya. Visit to the Mevlana Museum, formerly the place where the mystic philosophy of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi was taught. Then we have lunch and head on to Antalya. Dinner, and overnight in Antalya.
DAY 11 : Full day sightseeing at Perge, one of the most impressive sites of Pamphylia and Aspendos, the world's best preserved ancient theatre. After lunch at a local restaurant near the Aspendos theatre, we drive to Side, and end our visits for the day. Dinner, and overnight in Antalya.
DAY 12 : After visiting Antalya Archaeology Museum in the morning, we keep driving to Pamukkale, with a visit to Thermessos en route. We stop for lunch at a local restaurant. After arriving at Pamukkale, we spent the rest of the day at leisure, walking on the calcareous terraces of Pamukkale. Dinner, and overnight in Pamukkale.
Day 13 : We start the day visiting Hierapolis, only a stone's throw away from our hotel. After we enjoy ourselves walking on the calcareous terraces of Pamukkale, we start for Kusadasi, giving an en route visit to Aphrodisias, where there was a fertility cult dedicated to Aphrodite. After a well-earned lunch, we drive to Kusadasi, and check-in to our hotel, and have time in the late afternoon hours to see the sun set over the Kusadasi Bay. Dinner, and overnight in Kusadasi.
Day 14 : Today we first drive to the Virgin Mary's House; after that we visit Ephesus which was founded in the eleventh century BC by the Ionians. Strolling through the streets of Ephesus, we will witness the perfection of the Graeco-Roman Art. Later in the afternoon we will visit St John's Basilica, believed to be the tomb of the Apostle John, Christ's beloved disciple. From the basilica, we will be able to look down on the remains of the temple of Artemis. We end the day with our visit to the Isa Bey Mosque, then we head on to Kusadasi for rest. Dinner, and overnight in Kusadasi.
DAY 15 : Transfer to Izmir airport to go back home.
